CPR and the Vaughan Terminal
CPR was founded in 1881 to build a railway linking Canada's eastern population
centers with the vast, sparsely populated west.
This huge engineering feat was completed on Nov.7, 1885 - more than five years
ahead of schedule - when the last spike was driven at Craigellachie, B.C.
CPR was instrumental in populating the new western Canadian territory. Many cities
in the west grew around CPR stations.
The railway built hotels to accommodate travelers, immigration offices to attract
new settlers and the irrigation systems that allowed agriculture to flourish. CPR
has been a vital link in the North American economy since those early days, and
continues to play an essential role today.
Today, CPR remains one of North America's largest and most efficient railways.
Vauhan is CPR's largest Intermodal terminal in CPR's network. The terminal occupies
700 acres of developed and undeveloped land.
In total, there are over 14 miles of track; 30,000 feet of working tracks and 48,400
feet of storage tracks.
Space is limited to 50 participants and all registrations will be confirmed.
