Best Buy bought Future Shop in November, 2001. When the first Best Buy store opened in Mississauga, Ontario, in August, 2002, the company's 500,000sqf (46,450sqm) facility in Brampton began warehousing and delivering product for both brands. As new stores opened, it became increasingly difficult to handle the growing volume in that warehouse. The company joined forces with Siemens Dematic to develop a solution that doubled capacity and improved throughput. The biggest challenge is running two buildings as one facility.
Currently we service 107 stores out of this facility.

  • Rapistan sliding shoe sortation system from Siemens Dematic - comprised of six slapper (depalletization) lines, three pick modules, one hospital lane and 40 store-sort lanes

  • RDM - Retek Distribution Management System
  • About 270 RF handheld units from Symbol
  • 100 pieces of battery-operated material handling equipment

  • Fork trucks: Raymond fork trucks supplied by Johnston Equipment
  • Racking: North American Steel
  • Scanners: Datalogic
  • 3PLs: K&N (Edmonton, AB), Genco (Brampton, ON) and Ingram Micro (Mississauga, ON)
  • Home deliveries: Exel Logistics
  • Service: Ship an average of 1,040 pallets a day
  • Receive: 70-85 trucks a day
  • Pick rate: 130 units per hour
  • Employees: 400 to 600, depending on time of year
